Setting Up a Tablet for the Clubhouse

· Leon Braun

Making ordering easy

Ordering is easiest when you set up a tablet in your clubhouse canteen. We use an inexpensive Android tablet.

The LIST user role

In Beer after Mission, create a dedicated user for the tablet and give it the LIST role. This role lets the tablet record orders for all members, but nobody can reach the admin settings from it.

If you're connected to Vereinsflieger, you can simply use the service user you created during setup. You can also create a manual user instead. Then log in once on the tablet with this user. The session stays active after that.

Who shows up on the tablet?

  • Each member can choose in their own settings whether they appear on the tablet. Admins can also control this from the user list.

  • With the Vereinsflieger integration, you can choose under Tablet → Visibility in the plugin configuration which membership statuses (e.g. "active") are shown automatically.

  • Disabled members are hidden from the tablet.

PIN protection

So nobody orders on someone else's tab, members can set a 4-digit PIN that confirms their orders on the tablet. Admins can assign PINs in bulk to all users who don't have one yet, either a fixed PIN or random ones.

Kiosk mode

To make sure the tablet only shows Beer after Mission, we recommend a kiosk app. It displays a fixed page and blocks access to the rest of the device. That way nobody can navigate away or accidentally lock the tablet.

We use "Fully Kiosk Browser", which has a huge number of settings. The free version is enough to get started. We use the Plus version because it can use the front camera as a motion sensor: as soon as someone walks up to the tablet, the screen turns on. Tip: keep the tablet plugged in permanently.
